CLEVELAND – Former Eastern New Mexico University director of athletics Greg Waggoner was named a member of the 2024 NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) hall of fame. Waggoner spent three years in Portales.
Some of his achievements at ENMU include helping develop the "Chile Bowl" game versus Western New Mexico, supporting the institution's student-athletes to become Lone Star Conference academic champions twice, and hiring administrators and coaches who have gone on to other areas of sport.
"He did a wonderful job administrating and leading our athletics programs. Every program was stronger when he left versus when he came to the University. He brought credibility to athletics with the faculty with commitment to academic success," said former ENMU president Dr. Steven Gamble. "I really appreciated the fact he was straightforward and would not sugarcoat an issue."
Waggoner saw men's track and field, women's track and field, men's cross country, women's cross country, and women's basketball make appearances in national championship competition. He also oversaw growth in fundraising and fan attendance at games.
He is one of eight members of the 2024 hall of fame class. The group will be recognized in June at the NACDA Convention held in Las Vegas, Nev. For more information, please click here.
