PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University rodeo is adding
Beau Dean to the staff as an assistant coach. Dean most recently competed for the Greyhounds from 2022-24.
"I am ready to help coach this program that means so much to me," said Dean on the opportunity to become an assistant coach. "It's a blessing to be able to be in this position and I am looking forward to our first competition this fall."
Dean, a native of Platte, S.D., will assist in recruiting and guide the program through NIRA (National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association) competition.
As a student-athlete, he earned four trips to short go's while competing in team roping and steer wrestling. Three of those came during his 2022-23 campaign where he finished the season ranked in the top-15 in the southwest region in steer wrestling. In his first run with the Greyhounds, he took seventh at the College "Daze" rodeo in Portales. He followed that with trips to the finals at Texas Tech and Odessa College.
In his most recent season, Dean competed in the top-10 in steer wrestling at Odessa College.
Dean holds a bachelor's in agricultural sciences with a minor in business.
