PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico rodeo is saddled up and prepared to head to Alpine, Texas for the second rodeo of the 2024-25 NIRA season. Before ENMU competes at Sul Ross State, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Host Recap: Eastern New Mexico hosted the College "Daze" Rodeo last week and saw several newcomers compete in their first collegiate rodeo.
Tanner Lockie was the only Greyhound to score points all weekend. Lockie partnered with a cowboy from New Mexico Junior College in team roping where they took second in the long round and seventh overall in the event. His 45 points helped ENMU finish in 13th.
Trent Wood was the team's best tiedown roper at 51
st overall with a 15.7s time.
Shacie Marr ran the quickest breakaway for the women with a 3.7s run which was good enough for 34th. Her sister
Shaeden Marr proved to be the quickest goat tier and barrel racer for ENMU. She finished in 13th with an 8.4s (0.3s away from finals) run in the mud in goat tying. In the barrels, she was the first cowgirl out from Saturday's finals as she crossed the line in 17.71s (0.02s away from finals) to earn 11th.
2.) History In Alpine: The Greyhounds saw one of their best finishes in Alpine during the 2023 competition. For the women's program,
Shacie Marr made the short round in all three events – goat tying, breakaway, and barrels. She finished with 30 points in goat tying to give ENMU an 11th place result overall. Another returner,
Zachary Townsend, made the short-go in two events – tiedown and steer wrestling. Between the two events, he earned a combined 125 points to help the Hounds finish eighth among 17 teams. With Marr and Townsend back for Eastern New Mexico, both competitors should be in the running to compete Saturday night in the finals.
