ALPINE, Texas – Eastern New Mexico rodeo posted an impressive set of runs at the Sul Ross State rodeo this weekend. The Greyhounds' women's program took second place out of the region's 17 programs.

"These girls are roping good," remarked head coach Albert Flinn when asked about the three-day rodeo. "They took advantage of good calves."

ENMU scored 200 points over the competition with strong performances in breakaway and goat tying.

Shaeden Marr got off to a blazing start Thursday afternoon with a 2.0s flat time in breakaway to split second and third. Her sister, Shacie Marr, split fourth thru sixth with a 2.1s run. The two siblings earned bids to compete Saturday night in the short-go with the impressive times.

Shacie took fourth in the short round with a 3.0s mark. Shaeden earned an additional five points after splitting sixth overall with a fellow competitor.

"I want to keep pushing and get better," said Shacie Marr when asked about the weekend. "It was cool to do well with my sister."

Several other Greyhounds posted strong runs that saw themselves just on the outside of making it to Saturday night competition.

In goat tying, Tyra Tsosie clocked a 7.4s to place 15th among 80 student-athletes. Newcomer, Harlee Barela was just .12s away from advancing to the short-go in barrels with a well-paced 16.28s result.

The best group of team ropers were Trent Wood and Walker Dennis who placed 13th out of 150+ teams competing. Their 7.8s time was 1.4s shy of the targeting 6.4s result.

Zachary Townsend fell just short of qualifying for the short round in two different events. The Greenville, Fla. native went 10.0s in tiedown roping and 6.5s in steer wrestling. In both, Townsend was one place out of the top-ten.

The Greyhounds now set their eyes on the next rodeo of the season held at Clarendon College October 10-12.
