WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) has named six Eastern New Mexico student-athletes as 2024 Scholar American honorees.
The annual award recognizes participants who have earned points in a NIRA sanctioned event and hold a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
ENMU's awardees include
Beau Dean,
Greeley Eastep,
Tyson Mackenzie,
Shacie Marr,
Shaeden Marr, and
Tabby Tomlinson. All six cowboys and cowgirls earned a 4.0 GPA during the spring 2024 semester.
Dean and Tomlinson graduated in the spring. Dean earned his degree in agricultural sciences and Tomlinson finished her studies with a degree in elementary education. Eastep is studying animal and dairy science, Mackenzie is pursuing a degree in agricultural sciences, and the Marr sisters are working towards biology degrees.
"I am proud of every one of them for achieving this recognition," said head coach
Albert Flinn. "They are excellent students, and this is an indication to their dedication to both classwork and competition."
This is the first year ENMU has had six honorees for the distinction since 2018.
The Greyhounds will now set their focus for a rodeo at Clarendon College running from October 10-12.
