ENMU Athletics welcomes Jack Fitzgerald to strength and conditioning staff

Fitzgerald joins Greyhounds with several years of experience working with top collegiate programs and the US Army

PORTALES, N.M. – Jack Fitzgerald is joining Eastern New Mexico Athletics as the assistant strength and conditioning coach.

"I am thankful to the hiring committee, and everyone involved, especially director of athletics Kevin Fite and Justin McClure. It's great to link back with him (Justin) and learn from him and develop," said Fitzgerald when asked about the new role with ENMU. "I am pumped to be here. I am the type of guy that cares about the student-athletes he works with. Relationships are the foundation of strength and conditioning. I take pride in that. Athletics is the environment I am passionate about and I am happy to be here."

Fitzgerald most recently worked as a strength and conditioning coach for four years in Washington state where he oversaw coaching for the United States Army 16th Combat Aviation Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. That is where he last worked with ENMU's associate athletic director for sports performance Justin McClure.

His responsibilities included program design, weight room training, and recovery. He was the direct oversight of the 46th Air Support Battalion.

He is no stranger to intercollegiate athletics as he has experience with some of the best colleges and universities in the nation.

Fitzgerald worked with Iowa State University football as a strength and conditioning associate in 2020 and 2021. He oversaw weight room maintenance and worked alongside the coaching staff and student-athletes. The football program finished as the No. 9 team in the country and advanced to the Fiesta Bowl.

From 2018-19, he was the lead strength and conditioning coach for Kirkwood Community College baseball. He was responsible for the team's nutrition, recovery, and weight room activities. Fitzgerald also helped support both basketball programs, volleyball, softball, and golf.

Prior to his time at Kirkwood, he began the strength and conditioning program at Newman Catholic for grades 6-12. He helped with training for all of their sport programs during the 2017 school year.

Fitzgerald holds CPR/AED certifications and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. He played collegiate baseball at Creighton (DI), Kirkwood Community College (NJCAA), and Houston Christian (DI). He holds a bachelor's in kinesiology from Houston Christian and a master's in exercise science and wellness from Liberty.

He began his position at ENMU on January 27.
