SERIES INSIGHT
- ENMU and MSU meet for the 56th time in series history, as the Mustangs lead the all-time series 31-24. The teams have met in conference action 46 times up to this point, with MSU leading 24-22.
- ENMU has controlled the recent meetings between the schools, winning the last three meetings and six of the last ten games. Both games last season were decided by just a few possessions, 65-61 (1/13/24 in Portales, N.M.) and 65-60 (2/8/24 in Wichita Falls, Texas).
- The Greyhounds largest victory against Midwestern State came on home court, winning 80-55 on Feb 2, 2023. Eastern finished shooting 13-34 from three, while out-rebounding the Mustangs 47-35.
- Eastern's current three-game winning streak is one away from tying the longest winning streak in series history for ENMU (four-game winning streak occurred from 2/5/04-2/19/05).
- The teams first met in 1986, as Midwestern State claimed a 60-54 home victory over the Greyhounds (1/6/86).
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
- After taking their first conference loss of the season, ENMU stands at 10-2 overall with a 5-1 conference record. The loss came against #20 Lubbock Christian, falling 59-53 on home court. Both teams went back and forth with six lead changes and nine tied scores, but LCU finished the game with five straight points and held ENMU without a field goal in the final three minutes.
- The Greyhounds are the top scorers in the LSC (74.8 ppg), allowing just 54.4 ppg, holding the top scoring margin in the conference (+20.3). Eastern stands out on the glass leading the LSC rebounds (43.1 rpg), offensive rebounds (16.5 rpg), opponent rebounds (30.3 rpg), rebounding margin (+12.8 rpg). Shooting wise the Greyhounds 44.4% field goal shooting and 38.5% three-point shooting is the top in the conference. Eastern also stands in the top 5 for steals (1st, 12.5 spg), blocks (4th, 3.7 bpg), and assists (5th, 13.8 apg).
- Following a 20-point performance, Ishuana Hunter leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 12.5 ppg on 48.7% field goal shooting. The Senior also leads the team with a team high 23 steals (3rd in LSC, 2.1 spg). Offensively, five other Greyhounds average over 7.0 ppg.
- Jayla Smith leads the team rebounding effort with 6.2 rpg, while adding 8.9 points to the offense. Both Trinity Hudson (1.4 bpg) and Kaitlyn Edmondson (1.2 bpg) are in the top five for blocks in the LSC, while Jaz Salons 3.4 apg leads the team.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State enters Sunday's contest with a 4-8 overall standing and 2-4 LSC record. The Mustangs are still in search of their first road win of the season, losing all six road contests so far this season. Recently, MSU suffered a tough loss to West Texas A&M falling on a last second basket on the road, 69-67.
- The Mustangs are scoring 58.8 ppg while allowing 63.5 ppg. In terms of percentages, the team is shooting 34.0% from the field, 24.2% from behind the arc, and 68.1% at the foul line. MSU's strength is rebounding, pulling down 41.3 boards per contest (3rd in the LSC), while the team's 15.5 offensive rebounds per game only trails ENMU in conference. Additionally, MSU just trails ENMU for steals per game (10.9 spg), while adding 2.5 bpg and 10.3 apg.
- Zarria Carter averages a double-double for the Mustangs, posting a conference high 19.3 ppg and 11.8 rbg. Carter's eight double-doubles this season is tied for second in the nation. Carter is active on the offensive glass with 5.9 offensive rebounds per game, with a 51.4% field goal percentage, 2.5 spg, and 0.9 bpg. Last season when MSU visited the Greyhounds, Carter poured in a game high 27 points (10-16 FG, 7-8 FT) while grabbing nine rebounds.
- Kerbie Cash has provided 11.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg in their first season with MSU. Carisa Cortez leads the team in assists (2.5 apg) while adding 6.0 ppg. Calyssa Sevier (6.3 ppg) and Emillia Steele (6.1 ppg) are key figures to the Mustangs lineup.
