PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico will stay in the Land of Enchantment for the third rodeo of the season as they compete at a rodeo hosted by New Mexico Junior College in Lovington, N.M. Before the three day event, please read the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Recap FPC – ENMU rodeo last competed September 25-27 at Frank Phillips College.
Duncan Adamson was the only Hound to make it back in the short go in steer wrestling. Both
Shaeden Marr and
Mackinzee Dermody went to the short round in goat tying. Marr took second in the average and a solid top finish in the short go.
Jacob Walters also took second in the average along with his team roping partner from NMJC.
Ali Terry earned a trip to Saturday night performance in barrels and scored 40 total points.
2.) Weekend Ahead – Greyhound rodeo will have 10 entries on Thursday night at the Jake McClure Arena in Lovington, N.M. Eastern will have 10 participants compete on Friday and another eight on Saturday. Performances will be at 7 p.m. each night and slack begins at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday mornings. Thursday night will be an ideal start for Eastern as three student-athletes will compete in barrels (
Gracie Hillrud,
Ali Terry, and
Harlee Barela) and two in goat tying (
Shaeden Marr and
Mackinzee Dermody).
3.) Rankings Outlook – Eastern New Mexico men's rodeo is ranked fifth in the Caprock region. The women's program ranks fourth in the region. Two Hounds rank in the top-15 in tie down roping –
Bowdy Neece (2nd) and
Cutter Pareo (11th).
Jacob Walters is the second ranked heeler in the region and the fifth ranked steer wrestler.
Ali Terry ranks in the top 10 in barrels. Two cowgirls are rated in the top five in goat tying –
Mackinzee Dermody (2nd) and
Shaeden Marr (4th).
