Jarius Stewart named Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week

Quarterback set several national and conference records with 382 total rushing yards versus WNMU

PORTALES, N.M. – After a record shattering performance, quarterback Jarius Stewart was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week.

"An outstanding young man who works hard every day," said head coach Kelley Lee when told about the honor for Stewart. "He has responded by coming back from injuries with a record setting outing."

The Port Lavaca, Texas native helped Eastern cruise with 32 carries for 382 yards and five touchdowns. Stewart had touchdown runs of 8, 71, 5, 68, and 55 yards. He anchored an offense that totaled 760 yards, including an NCAA DII record 722 rushing yards.

ENMU now holds the record for most passing yards in a single game (695 yards in 2009) and rushing yards. The Hounds accumulated 35 first downs in the win over WNMU. They successfully converted on third down on 4-of-6 attempts.
Stewart also completed one pass for 38 yards.

His 382 rushing yards is a Lone Star Conference record for most rushing yards in a single game and was 43 yards from setting the national record. He also earned the NCAA DII record for most rushing yards in a single game by a quarterback. The previous record was held by Shawn Graves who played for Wofford in 1990.

This is Stewart's first player of the week honor from the conference.
