Greyhounds head to Alamosa for game against Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will look to build on their impressive season-opening victory when they face Adams State University on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Alamosa.

The Greyhounds are coming off a commanding 80-52 win over Regis University on Friday night, where they showcased their offensive firepower and defensive intensity. With the victory, ENMU starts the season 1-0 and has not lost a season opener since 2017.

Forward Chloe Dallas led the Greyhounds with a dominant performance, recording 13 points and four rebounds. Dallas demonstrated her defensive prowess as well, registering a game-high four blocks, including a key rejection against Regis' Emily Allison midway through the first half.

First year guard Hannah Jensen provided a perfect shooting night from beyond the arc, going 3-for-3 from three-point range. Jensen's sharpshooting helped the Greyhounds establish their lead early and maintain control throughout the contest. She also contributed defensively with three steals in the game.

Aaliyah Smith made her presence felt at the free-throw line, converting crucial shots late in the second quarter to extend the Greyhounds' lead to 17 points heading into halftime. Meanwhile, junior guard Julieta Ceja provided steady playmaking throughout the game, finishing with nine points and a team-high six rebounds.

The Greyhounds will face a formidable opponent in Adams State, who enters Sunday's contest with a 2-1 record after defeating Lone Star Conference member Angelo State 79-62 on Friday evening in Alamosa. The Grizzlies, who are receiving votes in the most recent preseason national polls, are led by three players averaging double figures: Kiyani Anitielu (19.3 ppg), Taejhuan Hill (18.7 ppg), and Ashian Hunter (10.3 ppg).

Adams State has shown defensive tenacity this season, forcing 32 turnovers while committing only 19 as a team. The Grizzlies are averaging 10.7 steals per game, presenting a challenge for the Greyhounds' ball handlers.

ENMU holds a slight 7-6 overall series advantage over the Grizzlies, setting the stage for what promises to be a competitive matchup as the Greyhounds look to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
