ENMU plays home finale on Saturday afternoon against the Rattlers

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball plays its final home game of the 2024-25 season on Saturday, February 22, against St. Mary's beginning 1 p.m. at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena. The Greyhounds program will be honoring its four seniors playing their final game in Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena, with the ceremony taking place during the men's basketball halftime.

SERIES INSIGHT

  • Saturday's clash marks just the 10th meeting between the schools all-time, with the Greyhounds holding a 5-4 edge over the Rattlers. In conference play, ENMU leads 3-1.
  • Six of the nine games have been played in San Antonio, with two games occurring in Portales, and once at a neutral site. All-time the series is 1-1 when being played in Portales, N.M.
  • St. Mary's broke up a four-game winning streak by the Greyhounds last season, claiming their first conference victory during a 65-56 win over ENMU in Portales (12/2/23).
  • Prior to the 2023 meeting, ENMU posted a 77-61 victory at home in 2021-22 season at home (the largest margin of victory for ENMU). Iyanna McCurdy led ENMU during the game with a double-double, scoring 18 points with 13 rebounds.
  • Eastern and St. Mary's first played each other in 1982, when the Rattlers walked away with a 63-45 victory over the Greyhounds (11/27/1982).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Winners of five straight games, the Greyhounds have secured a place in the LSC postseason with a 18-8 record, and a 13-7 conference standing. Eastern can finish as high as 4th in the LSC standings, while finishing as low as 7th.
  • Eastern leads the LSC in scoring average, 71.1 ppg, while allowing 61.1 ppg, with an average margin of +10.0. From the floor, the Greyhounds are shooting 43.2%, while connecting on 35.1% of three-pointers, and 69.3% at the foul line. Eastern are a strong rebounding team, grabbing 40.3 rpg, while giving up just 32.5 rpg. (+7.8 margin). The Greyhounds defense supplies 10.3 spg, along with 3.3 bpg.
  • After leading ENMU this past Thursday, Ishuana Hunter (11.2 ppg) and Nataya Lockett (10.6 ppg) provide the scoring for the Greyhounds. Jayla Smith finds an important 9.5 ppg, while leading Eastern with 6.3 rpg.
  • Kaitlyn Edmondson and Julieta Ceja each contribute to the rebounding effort with over 5.0 rpg, while four different Greyhounds having over 2.0 apg. Hunter and Lockett lead the defense with over 1.4 spg, with Edmondson and Trinity Hudson having over 1.0 bpg.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS

  • Following a close victory over West Texas A&M on Thursday, St. Mary's snapped a five-game losing streak to move to 12-13 on the season with an 8-11 conference standing. The Rattlers do have a slim chance to make the LSC tournament, but it would require them to win their final three games and get help in other contests around the LSC.
  • St. Mary's score 58.3 ppg, with their defense allowing 58.8 ppg. The Rattlers strength is in the post, shooting 39.8% from the field and just 26.0% from three, along with a 67.6% free throw percentage. The Rattlers pull down 39.5 rpg (4th in LSC), while the team's 3.8 bpg is 2nd in the LSC. Additionally, StMU find 12.2 apg and 6.4 spg.
  • Christin Callens is the only Rattler to start all 25 games this season, leading the team with 14.5 ppg, along with 5.8 rpg (2nd on team). Raynne Malik is the leading rebounder for St. Mary's with 7.7 rpg, while adding 7.5 ppg. Recently, Malik had a career high of 20 points during the win against West Texas A&M.
  • Imani Ivery is the second leading scorer for StMU, scoring 8.7 ppg while adding 2.1 apg. Andrea Montesinos contributes 2.3 apg playing every game this season, while Malik's 2.2 bpg leads the team and is second in the LSC.
