PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's rodeo is headed to Odessa for the first rodeo of the season. Before ENMU competes in the three day event, please read the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Fall Recap: ENMU women's rodeo comes into the spring season as the fourth best team in the southwest region. They sit with 602.50 total points going into the final five rodeos. They are 145.00 points away from second place Weatherford College. One of the key components to the team rankings comes from
Shacie Marr and
Shaeden Marr. The duo had lots of success in the fall. Shacie is sixth in the region in barrel racing and eighth in goat tying. Shaeden is ninth in breakaway roping.
2.) Staff Changes: Albert Flinn is now an assistant coach for Greyhound rodeo after serving as the head coach since 2008. Director of athletics
Kevin Fite named
Grady Goodson as the team's interim head coach. Goodson is a former team member and lifelong member of the Portales community. The program will complete the spring season with Goodson overseeing the program and with assistance from Flinn.
3.) What To Watch For: ENMU will be represented by 14 entries in the breakaway during the rodeo. Eight will run in the barrels. Six student-athletes will compete in goat tying. Three are entering in tiedown roping. Two will take part in steer wrestling.
Tyson Mackenzie and
Zachary Townsend will team up in team roping.
