Eastern takes on #22 Colorado Mesa on Friday evening in Denton, Texas

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball plays just their third ever game in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament on Friday evening, taking on (4) #22 Colorado Mesa in the regional quarterfinal in Denton, Texas. Tipoff from the Kitty Magee Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. (CST).

  • Friday's game will be broadcast on FloCollege. SERIES INSIGHT

  • The Greyhounds and Mavericks meet each other in the regional tournament for the first time as postseason opponents, while playing the Mavericks for the first time since 2001.
  • Overall, CMU holds a 2-1 advantage in the three games the teams have played against each other. During the 2001 matchup, the teams played each other in a neutral site game being held in Gunnison, Colo., with CMU taking the game 72-43 (11/17/01). ENMU's only win against Colorado Mesa came back in 1984, as ENMU took a 78-74 home game against the Mavericks (1/25/84).
  • In ENMU's brief NCAA Tournament history, the Greyhounds face their second ever RMAC opponent in the Mavericks. Eastern played their first ever NCAA game against (3) UCCS, falling to the Mountain Lions 89-73, in Pueblo, Colo. (3/10/17).
  • The Greyhounds earn an NCAA regional tournament bid for just the fourth time in program history, while Colorado Mesa has reached the national tournament for the 9th time in program history. All-time, ENMU is 0-2 in the NCAA tournament, while Colorado Mesa holds 7-7 record in tournament play, reaching the Elite Eight in 2013.

SCOUTING THE (5) GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico was selected to the NCAA Tournament field for the first time since 2020. During the 2024-25 campaign, The Greyhounds finished the regular season with a 20-8 overall record, along with a 15-7 Lone Star Conference record. Eastern bowed out of the LSC Tournament with a quarterfinal defeat to (5) Angelo State, 71-61, in their last game, but had won seven games in a row before the defeat.
  • The Greyhounds enter the game averaging 69.9 ppg, while allowing 60.4 ppg. Offensively, Eastern shoots 42.9% from the field, while connecting on 33.8% of three-pointers, and hitting 68.6% of foul shots.  Eastern secure just under 40.0 rpg, while allowing 32.7 rpg. ENMU dish out 13.0 apg, while finding 10.3 spg, and 3.1 bpg.
  • Eastern is balanced offensively, with five players averaging over seven points per game, lead by Ishuana Hunter's 11.0 ppg. Nataya Lockett contributes 10.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 2.0 apg, with Jayla Smith leading the rebounding effort with 6.0 rpg, along with 8.9 ppg.
  • Both Julieta Ceja and Kaitlyn Edmondson are contributing 7.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg, with Edmondson recording a double-double in the Greyhounds quarterfinal game with Angelo State (19 pts, 13 reb). Abbi Holder leads the team in made three's, while contributing 2.1 apg.

SCOUTING THE (4) #22 MAVERICKS

  • Winning the regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship, #22 Colorado Mesa earned the fourth seed in the regional tournament with a 25-5 overall record with a 18-2 conference record. Recently, the Mavericks had their 18-game winning streak snapped, falling at home in the RMAC Championship game to UCCS, 63-61. CMU was ranked 22nd in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WCBA) Poll.
  • CMU led the RMAC in both scoring (71.1 ppg) and scoring defense (56.5 opp ppg). The Mavericks also led the league in field goal percentage (44.1%) and three-point field goal percentage (33.2%), and were second in free throw percentage (82.2%). Additionally, Colorado Mesa finds 37.5 rpg, with a +6.3-rebounding margin. CMU's 17.0 apg led the RMAC, while finding 2.3 bpg, and forcing 5.9 spg. The team takes care of the ball, leading the country with a 1.50 assist to turnover ratio.
  • Oliva Reed Thyne was the RMAC Player of the Year for the second straight season, leading the team with 21.9 pgg and 10.9 rpg. Reed Thyne also paced the team defensively with 32 blocks during the season, shooting 57.8% (9th in nation) from the floor with 267 field goals (2nd in nation), recording 18 double-doubles this season.
  • The other key members of the team are Kylie Kravig and Riley Hayes. Kravig is one of the nation's top assisters with 6.1 apg, while adding 10.8 ppg. Riley Hayes leads the team in three-point shots, shooting 33.3% from deep, finding 12.3 ppg. Together five different players are averaging over 23 minutes per game, accounting for 84.5% of the teams points per game.
