PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico began the 2025 spring portion of the rodeo season on a strong note.
Zachary Townsend,
Shacie Marr, and
Katie Anderson all made it back in the short go for ENMU.
"It was good. Everybody was well geared up and ready to compete," said assistant rodeo coach
Albert Flinn after the competition. "I was pretty pleased. It was another one of those rodeos where you have so many competitors and its tough to make it back."
Townsend posted a 6.5s time in the long round to get within the top ten. He finished in 10.5s Saturday night to finish one spot away from earning points for the Greyhounds.
Anderson split 10/11/12/13 in the breakaway with a 2.7s time. Flinn's earlier comment specifically addressed the tough competition in the breakaway that requires such a low time to make it back for another run.
Marr continues to have an excellent season for ENMU. She earned a trip to the short go in barrels. Her 14.1s time put her in eighth going into Saturday. She followed that with a 13.94s run to take a 3/4 split in the short round and a sixth place nod in the average.
Marr's 45 points in the barrels helped the program take sixth overall among the 17 collegiate programs. ENMU will need to wait a whole month before spring competition resumes at Ranger College March 27-29.
