PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's rodeo programs are back in action Thursday thru Saturday for a rodeo hosted by Ranger College. Before the competition, please take a look at the Three Barrel Preview:
1.) Spring Opener Recap – The Greyhounds opened the 2025 spring season in Odessa, Texas last month. The program had three student-athletes advance to the short-go. Competing in the marquee Saturday night event was
Shacie Marr (barrels),
Katie Anderson (breakaway), and
Zachary Townsend (steer wrestling). Marr secured the only points for ENMU over the weekend. Her 45 points came after an impressive 13.94s time in the short round to place sixth in average and split ¾ in the short go. Anderson got into the finals in a field of 200+ competitors. Her 2.7s time split 10-13. Townsend finished one place away from snagging points for the men's team. His 6.5s and 10.5s marks came just shy.
2.) Looking Sweet – Eastern New Mexico will have 33 entries in the rodeo hosted by Ranger College this weekend. Breakaway will be one of the busiest events with 14 cowgirls entering the event for ENMU. Eastern will have entries on all three days with anticipation to compete in the short round Saturday night. Slack begins at 12 p.m. MT Thursday afternoon with team roping and barrels. Friday will be the only performance day for the long round. The event is set for 6 p.m. MT at the Coliseum in Sweetwater, Texas. The Hounds are looking to score in six-straight rodeos on the women's side. The men will try to earn points for just the third time this season.
3.) Regional Review – The women's program ranks fifth in the southwest region with 647.50 points. The team is less than 50 points away from leaping Texas Tech for fourth in the standings.
Shacie Marr ranks as the sixth best barrel racer in the region with 235 points. She is just 50 points shy of reaching the fourth place holder. The senior is also ranked as the number eight goat tier in the region. She is 50 points behind the sixth spot.
Shaeden Marr is the tenth highest point scorer in breakaway. She is 90 points behind the leader in the region.
