PORTALES, N.M. –
Aaron Johnson is joining Eastern New Mexico Athletics as senior associate athletic director for external affairs.
"Aaron (Johnson) will be a great asset to our department as he looks to engage our University with the community," said director of athletics
Kevin Fite. "He will be the direct point of contact with all ENMU Athletics corporate sponsors and has a fantastic background in this area while working with major collegiate and professional sport organizations."
Johnson comes to Portales after spending the last year as senior director of revenue for Matchroom Sports in Las Vegas, Nev. where he oversaw an instant six-figure bump in revenue over the organization's first three live events. He also worked on promoting digital advertisements during premier boxing fights.
Previously, he worked with the AFFL organization Las Vegas Lucky Sevens where he served as senior director of sales and operations. His main role was to engage with corporate sponsors and increase ticket sales.
Johnson briefly worked for the Vegas Vipers, an XFL team in Nevada. Within one month of hire, he surpassed his revenue goal of $2 million raised. He continued to impact the organization through his efforts in talent management and strengthening fan experience.
Before his time in Las Vegas, Johnson worked with several sport organizations in the Lone Star state. From 2021-23 he was the director of sales and ticket operations for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He helped the organization transition from an independent league team to becoming a AAA franchise under the Houston Astros organization.
Another area where Johnson excelled was in his role as senior regional sales manager for Tailgate Guys. He specifically focused on properties in Texas and Oklahoma during his six years in the position. Johnson directly worked with expanding outreach to Fortune 250 clients and grew revenue by six figures annually.
From 2015-17, Johnson served as director of sales and ticket operations for MountainStar Sports Group under the wing of the El Paso Chihuahuas. His team sold out 57 games during his time with the organization and impacted sales strategies resulting in $8 million in revenue.
Johnson is no stranger to collegiate athletics. He served as general manager for the IMG Learfield property at University of Texas San Antonio for four years. He also was director of ticket sales at the University of Arizona for five years.
He holds a bachelor's in health promotion from Montana State – Northern and a master's from Montana State – Billings.
