PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico football is back at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium for the annual Military Appreciation Night and Family Weekend game. Before ENMU competes against No. 8 Angelo State, please read the 4th & 1 Preview:
First Down – Getting Back on Track: Eastern is coming off a 28-7 loss to (RV) Colorado Mesa. The matchup is Grand Junction saw ENMU score a passing touchdown late in the first quarter to take a lead over the Mavericks. CMU managed to tie the game by halftime and used a late push in the third quarter to take a lead that they held onto the remainder of the game. The Hounds allowed 379 total yards of offense to the home side. Eastern New Mexico managed to lock in a passing touchdown in consecutive games for the first time since 2023. The Green and Silver nearly met the 200-yard mark rushing wise with 194 total yards on the ground. ENMU did win the first down battle, 18-15, with 12 of those coming via a running play.
Second Down – Leading the Offense: Quarterback
Chad Ragle led all rushers in the matchup with Colorado Mesa. Ragle finished the game with 120 yards on the ground and 75 passing yards along with one touchdown. The redshirt sophomore has 159 total rushing yards along with 243 passing yards on the season. He also has three passing touchdowns and one rushing score. Ragle is part of an offense that leads the conference in yards per completion. His longest pass so far this season is a 65-yarder against NMHU.
Third Down – D-D-D-Defense: Eastern New Mexico has gone back-to-back games allowing just seven first half points to its opponents. ENMU's defense has also not allowed a single point in the first quarter. The Hounds have forced two fumbles and an interception.
Matthew Quartieri leads the program with 18 total tackles with 1.5 for loss.
Aaron Warren has also gotten off to an excellent start to his Greyhound career as he boasts 17 tackles along with one forced fumble.
J.J. Silver is responsible for ENMU's only interception. He is third on the team with 14 tackles with five of them being solo stops. This year, 13 different Hounds have three or more tackles over the first two contests.
Fourth Down – Nationally Renowned: No. 8 Angelo State comes into Portales with a perfect 2-0 record with victories over Emporia State and Fort Hays State. Both of those wins came by 21 points. The Rams boast a balanced offense as they rank fourth in the LSC with 198.5 rushing yards per contest and sixth in the league with 215.0 passing yards per game. On Saturday, the offense will not be run by preseason conference player of the year Braeden Fuller. The fourth-year Ram suffered an injury last week and now ASU is relying on Kaeden Smith. Smith is a redshirt sophomore who has played in nine games over two seasons of action. In 2025, he has thrown at least one passing touchdown in each contest. He boasts 132 passing yards and 60 rushing yards over the first two contests of the season. Another highlight for ENMU is their defense. They currently lead the nation with five total interceptions and give up just 72 rushing yards per game which ranks third in the LSC.
&1 – All The Honor: Greyhound Athletics will be recognizing Military Appreciation Night on Saturday. Several festivities will take place during the game. The Portales Military Affairs Committee (PMAC) is hosting a tailgate for active duty military personnel, an AC-130J flyover, special national anthem performance, and recognition of leadership from Cannon Air Force Base. ENMU has also partnered with Goodfellow Air Force Base to invite military personnel form the base out of San Angelo, Texas. The University is also recognizing Family Weekend where the institution will giveaway $1750 worth of scholarships to Greyhound students. The sponsor of the scholarship is JP Stone Community Bank.
