ENMU hosts rival West Texas A&M on Thursday

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team will host No. 6 West Texas A&M in a highly anticipated rivalry matchup on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena in Portales.
 
While West Texas A&M holds a significant 80-21 lead in the all-time series, the Greyhounds enter the contest with recent momentum in the rivalry, having won the last two meetings between the programs.
 


Eastern looks to bounce back after a 77-63 road loss to No. 11 Lubbock Christian this past Saturday, a result that snapped the Greyhounds six-game winning streak. Senior guard Shay Moseberry led the effort in the loss, scoring a team-high 19 points and grabbing four rebounds.
 
Senior forward Chloe Dallas leads the Greyhounds this season, averaging 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient .594 from the field. Dallas has also recorded 11 steals and eight blocks. Junior forward Julieta Ceja contributes 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest, leading the team with 19 steals and shooting .432 from three-point range. Senior guard Nataya Lockett rounds out the top scorers with 10.0 points per game while leading the team in playmaking with 28 assists and 27 steals. Lockett is shooting .387 from the field.
 
As a team, the Hounds boast one of the most productive benches in the country, leading the Lone Star Conference and ranking fourth in the nation with 37.9 bench points per game. Eastern averages 73.7 points per game while holding opponents to 59.8. The Hounds defensive pressure remains a focal point, as they rank second in the LSC and 22nd nationally with 12.9 steals per game. ENMU shoots .411 from the field and .330 from beyond the arc while forcing an average of 23.1 turnovers per contest. The Greyhounds also hold advantages in rebounding (39.1 to 35.7) and assists (14.9 to 11.5) while limiting opponents to .389 shooting from the field and .316 from three-point range.
 
No. 6 West Texas A&M (17-1, 9-0 LSC) arrives in Portales riding a 17-game winning streak. The Lady Buffs' only loss of the season came in their opener against No. 1 Grand Valley State, 73-59. WT leads the conference and ranks sixth nationally in both rebound margin (12.0) and defensive rebounds per game (31.0).
 
The Lady Buffs are led by Kyla Kane, who averages 12.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting .401 from the field and .868 from the free-throw line. Taylor Haggan contributes 11.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game on .581 shooting from the floor while adding 18 steals. Karley Motschenbacher anchors the defense with 31 steals while adding 6.8 rebounds and 6.1 points per contest on .423 shooting.
 
WT averages 78.1 points per game and limits opponents to just 58.1. The Lady Buffs are shooting .446 from the field and .325 from three-point range, while holding opponents to a .339 field goal percentage and .257 from deep. WT averages 44.6 rebounds per game compared to 32.6 for opponents, and dishes out 14.6 assists per contest while forcing 16.1 turnovers. The Lady Buffs also hold edges in steals (8.1 to 6.3) and blocks (2.7 to 1.9) per game.
 
Looking ahead, Eastern returns to Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena next week to host nationally ranked Texas Woman's on Thursday followed by UT Tyler on Saturday.
