PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will look to protect its perfect home and conference records when it hosts St. Edward's University on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
The Greyhounds enter the matchup having won four straight games and nine of their last 10 contests. Eastern is coming off a 65-58 victory over RV St. Mary's on Thursday evening in Portales, a win fueled by a dominant performance from the bench.
Nataya Lockett led the charge for the Hounds against the Rattlers, providing a spark as a reserve with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Lockett also facilitated the offense with four assists while adding three rebounds and a steal.
Chloe Dallas made a significant impact in her first game back in the lineup since Dec. 1, contributing 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and pulling down six rebounds to go along with two blocks.
On the season, Dallas leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.2 points and 7.3 boards per game while shooting 57.8% from the field. The forward has also recorded seven blocks on the year.
Julieta Ceja follows closely with 11.1 points per game and 6.4 rebounds, leading the team with 16 steals and a 46.4% mark from three-point range.
Lockett averages 10.4 points per game and leads the team in both assists (25) and steals (25) while adding 2.8 rebounds per contest.
As a team, Eastern leads the conference and ranks fourth in the nation in bench points per game (38.6). The Greyhounds are averaging 74.0 points per game while holding opponents to 58.9. ENMU holds the advantage in field goal percentage (.412 to .390) and three-point percentage (.337 to .291). The Hounds are shooting 66.8% from the free-throw line compared to 68.7% for their opponents. Defensively, Eastern is forcing 23.4 turnovers per game and averaging 12.8 steals while out-rebounding opponents 38.1 to 36.0. The Greyhounds are also dishing out 14.9 assists per game compared to 11.9 for their opponents.
St. Edward's (9-5, 3-3 LSC) travels to Portales looking to rebound after a 77-46 loss to No. 7 West Texas A&M on Thursday. The Hilltoppers are led by Suni Davis, who averages 14.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 85.9% from the free-throw line. Davis has also recorded 32 assists and 20 steals on the season. Kiana Bennett contributes 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while adding 30 assists and 27 steals. Bennett is shooting 44.0% from the field. Mikah Chapman adds 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 54.3% from the floor. Chapman has tallied 19 steals and 14 blocks this season.
The Hilltoppers average 65.1 points per game while allowing 62.4 and shoot 39.8% from the floor compared to 37.9% for their opponents. St. Edward's is shooting 26.5% from three-point range while holding opponents to 30.1%. The Hilltoppers convert 72.7% of their free throws compared to 68.6% for their opponents. St. Edward's has been strong at the net, averaging 4.5 blocks per game compared to 2.1 for their opponents. The Hilltoppers are averaging 12.9 assists per game while forcing 18.3 turnovers and recording 9.4 steals. St. Edward's holds a slight rebounding edge over opponents, 37.4 to 36.1.
Following Saturday's contest, the Greyhounds will hit the road next week. Eastern faces Midwestern State on Thursday, January 15, followed by a matchup against nationally-ranked Lubbock Christian on Saturday, January 17.
