Eastern In A Minute: Written Edition (November 2nd)

PORTALES, N.M. - As I stay on the mend, here's another written edition of Eastern In A Minute! While there isn't too much going on quantity-wise, two teams' regular seasons come to a close this weekend. How will volleyball send off one of the best players it's seen? What will cross country make of its last meet before regionals? That and more, on the first Eastern In A Minute of November.

Volleyball Sends Off the Seniors
Sophia Valdez will finish her Greyhound career top ten all-time in kills. She needs 16 more to tie Jessica King (2008-11) for ninth and 17 to overtake. November 6th is Senior Night against Oklahoma Christian, with first serve at 6 p.m. and Senior Night festivities taking place after the match concludes. Valdez will be celebrated alongside Aaliyah Butler, Amya Speller, and Peyton Priddy. Fan Appreciation Day closes out the regular season as the Greyhounds go one-on-one with Cameron to end the year. Last season ended with a victory over the Aggies, can Karli Bustos' crew do it two years in a row?

Cross Country's Last Chance in Lubbock
The Lone Star Conference championship will be handed out in Lubbock this Saturday as the Greyhounds get a great opportunity to prepare for the NCAA South Central Regional in two weeks' time. Not only will it give Eastern a taste of the competition they'll be up against under the bright lights, but the South Central Regional takes place on the exact same course in Lubbock.

Football Locks Horns with the Rams
Football's final road game of the season takes place this Saturday at 5 p.m. against Angelo State. The Greyhounds are looking for their first road win against the Rams since 2016. Clifton Cooper has settled in as the starter for the Greyhounds and will look to make Saturday's meeting the sixth game in a row in which he's scored multiple touchdowns. Senior Day for football takes place next week.

Rodeo Wraps Up Fall
The first half of the rodeo season has come and gone, wrapping up with the Texas Tech Rodeo on Halloween weekend. Two Greyhounds came home with hardware: Orran Hart (Steer Wrestling) and Evann Segura (Breakaway Roping). The women go into the winter break a close second in the standings to South Plains College, while the men sit at seventh.

Soccer Closes Season with Close Loss
The first regular season to conclude this year is women's soccer, who closed out the season with a close loss to Texas A&M International, 2-1. Megan Mukiibi broke through for her first career goal to open the scoring, but the Dustdevils clawed back to win. The Hounds finish the season 2-13-2 with a 1-12-1 mark in LSC play.
