Greyhounds look to extend win streak at Texas A&M International

PORTALES, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico women's basketball will look to extend its three-game winning streak when the Greyhounds travel to face Texas A&M International on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT in Laredo, Texas.

The matchup marks the ninth meeting between the two programs, with ENMU holding a 5-3 advantage in the overall series. The Greyhounds captured the most recent contest on Dec. 15, 2024, defeating the Dustdevils 63-56 in Laredo.

Eastern (15-9, 11-5 LSC) sits tied for fifth in the Lone Star Conference standings and enters Thursday's contest riding momentum from three consecutive victories.

Chloe Dallas has been a force for the Greyhounds this season, leading the team with 14.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 56.5 percent from the field. The forward has also contributed 23 steals and 14 blocks on the defensive end.

Julieta Ceja provides a versatile threat, averaging 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The forward has been lethal from beyond the arc, connecting on 48.7 percent of her three-point attempts while adding 23 steals.

Aaliyah Smith orchestrates the offense with 59 assists on the season while averaging 9.6 points per game. Smith has been active defensively with 36 steals and contributes 2.0 rebounds per contest.

Mekhila Brown delivered a flawless performance in Saturday's 69-51 victory over UT Dallas, shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the field to lead all scorers with 17 points off the bench. Brown became the first ENMU player to shoot 100 percent from the field with a minimum of five attempts since Ceja went 6-for-6 in a 74-63 win over New Mexico Highlands on Nov. 8, 2024.

The Greyhounds have built its success on a balanced offensive attack and stingy defense. Eastern averages 71.1 points per game while limiting opponents to 60.2 points per contest. The Greyhounds shoot 41.4 percent from the field compared to 38.1 percent for opponents.

ENMU's depth has been a significant advantage this season. The Greyhounds lead the conference and rank sixth nationally in bench points per game at 34.5. Eastern's pressure defense forces 20.9 turnovers per game while committing just 16.8, and the Greyhounds average 11.5 steals per contest – fourth in the LSC and 42nd in the nation.

The Greyhounds control the glass with a 38.8 to 35.1 rebounding advantage over opponents and facilitate well with 14.1 assists per game compared to 11.0 for the opposition. Eastern also holds edges in blocks per game (2.3 to 1.8) and three-point percentage (31.0 to 29.5).

The Greyhounds' current three-game winning streak includes a 76-47 victory over Cameron, a 61-57 overtime triumph over No. 8 West Texas A&M, and Saturday's 69-51 win over UT Dallas in Portales, N.M.

Texas A&M International enters Thursday's contest having dropped its last three games, including a 44-80 loss to No. 23 Lubbock Christian on Saturday.

Jayden Smallwood leads the Dustdevils with 12.6 points per game while adding 4.6 rebounds, 46 assists and 31 steals. Aailyah McMilan contributes 12.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest with 13 steals. Bridgette Tello rounds out the double-figure scorers at 10.6 points per game while adding 3.8 rebounds, 25 steals and 22 assists.

Racheal Emmanuel posted a double-double in Saturday's loss with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Tello added nine points in the defeat.

The Dustdevils average 64.8 points per game while allowing 66.5. TAMIU shoots 34.1 percent from the field compared to 40.7 percent for opponents and connects on 29.0 percent from three-point range while opponents hit 31.8 percent.

Texas A&M International averages 39.3 rebounds per game compared to 39.5 for opponents and dishes out 10.8 assists per contest while opponents record 15.1. The Dustdevils force 22.1 turnovers per game while committing 19.0 and average 11.6 steals per contest. TAMIU blocks 2.4 shots per game while opponents reject 3.8.

Following Thursday's contest, Eastern New Mexico will head to Kingsville for a Saturday matchup with the Javelinas.
