Greyhounds look to extend win streak to five at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team will look to extend its four-game winning streak when it travels to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in Lone Star Conference action.

The Greyhounds (16-9, 12-5 LSC) sit tied for fourth place in the conference standings and hold a 40-34 advantage in the all-time series against the Javelinas (5-18, 5-12 LSC), who sit 13th in the league.

Senior forward Chloe Dallas continues to anchor the Greyhounds' offense, averaging 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 54.9 percent from the field. Dallas has also been a defensive force with 24 steals and 18 blocks on the season.

Junior forward Julieta Ceja has emerged as a versatile threat, contributing 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Ceja has been particularly effective from beyond the arc, connecting on 44.6 percent of her three-point attempts while also recording 24 steals.

Junior guard Aaliyah Smith orchestrates the offense with 9.6 points per game and a team-leading 61 assists. Smith has been active on the defensive end as well, tallying 36 steals this season.

For the Javelinas, guard Kaycee Groves leads the way with 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 59 assists per game. Groves has been a disruptive defender with 41 steals while shooting 35.4 percent from the field.

Junior forward Kaylee Howell provides an efficient interior presence, averaging 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 52.0 percent from the field. Howell has also contributed 22 assists and seven steals.

Senior forward Thalia Daniels rounds out the Javelinas' top performers with 6.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Daniels has added 36 assists and 18 steals while shooting 37.2 percent from the field.

Eastern has won four consecutive games, including victories over Cameron (76-47), No. 8 West Texas A&M (61-57 OT), UT Dallas (69-51) and Texas A&M International (69-59) on Thursday in Laredo.

In the win over TAMIU, Mekhila Brown scored a team-high 13 points off the bench to lead four Greyhounds in double figures. Brown added four rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes, providing a spark for Eastern.

Ceja recorded her third double-double of the season against the Dustdevils, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. The forward also contributed two assists and a steal in 30 minutes.

The Hounds bench has been a significant weapon throughout the season. Eastern leads the LSC and ranks fifth in the nation in bench points per game at 34.0. The Hounds also average 11.2 steals per game, fourth in the conference and 51st nationally.

Eastern holds advantages in several key statistical categories. The Greyhounds average 71.0 points per game compared to opponents' 60.3 and shoot 41.6 percent from the field while limiting opponents to 37.7 percent. ENMU also outrebounds opponents 38.8 to 35.1 and forces 20.8 turnovers per game while committing just 17.0.

The Greyhounds distribute the ball effectively with 14.3 assists per game and create havoc defensively with 11.2 steals and 2.4 blocks per contest. Eastern connects on 31.4 percent of its three-point attempts while holding opponents to 29.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Texas A&M-Kingsville has dropped four straight games, including a 50-65 loss to No. 11 West Texas A&M on Thursday.

Kaycee Groves led the Javelinas in points, rebounds and assists against the Lady Buffs, posting 12, seven and five, respectively, along with a pair of steals. Caitlyn Benally added 11 points in the losing effort.

The Javelinas average 54.5 points per game while allowing 61.0 and shoot 39.2 percent from the field compared to opponents' 39.8 percent. Texas A&M-Kingsville holds a rebounding advantage at 35.7 per game to opponents' 31.2 but struggles with turnovers, committing 20.0 per game while forcing just 14.4.

The Javelinas hand out 12.6 assists per game and record 7.4 steals and 2.4 blocks per contest. Texas A&M-Kingsville shoots 29.0 percent from three-point range while allowing 33.5 percent from deep and converts 66.5 percent of its free throws compared to opponents' 71.8 percent.
