SNYDER, Texas – Both Eastern New Mexico rodeo programs posted top five finishes at the Western Texas College rodeo.
"Snyder has a unique arena and we did not draw well in some areas," said head coach
John Sharp after the competition. "We still had a good core in the short round. We need to build on that confidence as we head into our next competition."
The men's program finished fourth in the rodeo.
Cutter Pareo made it back in tiedown roping after a 12.7s run in the short go. He went 11.2s on Saturday night to earn a fifth place slot in the average and fourth overall in the short round.
Jacob Walters made it back in team roping, but did not score any team points.
Orran Hart made it to Saturday finals after a 5.9s run. That was good enough for fourth in the long round. He won the short go with a 3.5s time and placed second in the average.
"It was cool to see all his hard work pay off," said Sharp when reflecting on Hart's weekend. "Cool to see a freshman do that in his first weekend at Snyder."
The arena proved to be tough for the cowboys and cowgirls as the size was much tighter than typical competition sites in the region.
Mazey Hillrud nearly made it back in breakaway, but came just one-tenth of a second from that.
Mackinzee Dermody split 4/5/6 with a 6.8s long round time in goat tying.
Harlee Barela also made it back in barrels splitting 6/7 with a 14.20s run. In the short go she took second with a blazing 13.81s time. Barela was third in the average.
Eastern New Mexico rodeo will be off next week for Eastern weekend, but will be back in action at Howard College Apr. 9-11. Keep up to date with the latest with the team on www.goeasternathletics.com
