PORTALES, N.M. – ENMU Men's Basketball's
Jose Murillo and Cross Country runner
Chama El Hadiri have both been named the 2025-2026 Greatest Greyhounds (ENMU's Student-Athletes of the Year).
Murillo becomes the 81
st male winner in the awards history, while El Hadiri becomes the 47
th female. Murillo is the first men's basketball player to win the award since the 2014-2015 season. El Hadiri becomes the first cross country female to win in since 2012-2013. The Greatest Greyhound award is nominated and voted on by each of the head coaches in the department.
The Chihuahua, Mexico native Murillo played his fourth and final season as a Greyhound in 2025-26, earning First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive team honors. The forward was also named First Team All-Region by the D2CCA, averaging 16.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and recorded 61 blocks. Murillo led the Lone Star in field goal percentage with 65.1% and blocked shots per game with 2.0.
"There was never a doubt that Jose would get this award," says ENMU head coach Daven Vo, "he exemplifies what it means to be a Greyhound. In 4 years, he has raised the standard of the men's basketball program, outgrown his own goals, and more than anything had such a positive impact on so many lives. Thank you Jose!"
Murillo currently plays professionally in the Mexican LNBP (Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional) for the Dorados de Chihuahua.
Distance runner
Chama El Hadiri earns the Greatest Greyhound award in her freshman season, which is among numerous accolades she collected. El Hadiri was named the Lone Star Conference Female Freshman of the Year, the New Mexico College Female Athlete of the Year, and was an all-conference selection. The Morocco native earned two LSC Freshman Runner of the Week awards and placed 13
th at the conference meet.
Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field coach Keyanah Browning commented on her recognition; "Chama has accomplished so much in her freshman year and made school history, and I look forward to seeing what she brings this upcoming year!"
El Hadiri will return to the course as ENMU Cross Country kicks the new season off on September 5th in Las Cruces.
