Post Art Morgan Classic
 
Las Cruses, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico Men's and women's cross-country teams competed in the opening race of the season at the New Mexico State Art Morgan Classic. The race featured eight men's teams and seven women's teams.
 
The race consisted with a three-loop course with a very straight finish line at the NMSU golf course the race was ran mainly on grass with crossings over concrete paths on a relatively flat course except for some mild rolling hills. Both genders competed in a 5K race.

Starting with the women's race Eastern New Mexico finished sixth out of seven teams, beating in-state foe New Mexico highlands. On the women's side, New Mexico State dominated the race, scoring 27 points and placing five runners in the top 10 with their 7^th runner finishing 13^th overall.
ENMU was led by Chama El-Hadiri, a sophomore, with a time of 18:57.9. She was followed by Maya Garcia Schafer, who finished 33rd with a time of 20:54.5. Coming in 50^th
 Joella Mathilda with a time of 23:16.2. Right behind her, Elizabeth Lujan-Towles and Alexandria Renteria tied, both finishing with a time of 23:52.6, And rounding out the pack were Valentina Rocabado Salazar and Kayla Brachman, who both finished with a time of 26:31.4.
 
On the men's side, the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds finished seventh out of eight teams. The winning team was Odessa, whose top four runners all finished inside the top 10, including the first- and second-place finishers.
The Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds were led by Isaac Lacey, a freshman from Farmington, New Mexico, with a time of 15:44.9, placing 22nd overall. He was followed by Mason Taylor with a time of 16:38.5, placing 45th. A few seconds behind him was Rodrigo Pinales, who finished 51st with a time of 16:49.9. Then Erardo Gonzalez placed 61st with a time of 17:33.2. And rounding the squad out with a time of 19:16.0 Aiden Ramirez.

"Going into the race, I was very confident in a least a PR." Freshman Issac Lacey spoke on his performance in his collegiate debut. "I knew that all the training we've been doing would pay off, so I was really excited for this race. It definitely was a tough race for all of us. I think we all expected a little bit more from ourselves… It wasn't really what we wanted, but we're motivated to do better."

The Hounds will next run at the Texas Tech Open on September 18^th where they will run on the Lubbock Christian cross country course.
