PORTALES, N.M. — The 2014 season has been a strong one for the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team (8-6; LSC 5-3). The team picked up its first-ever win over a team ranked in the nation's top ten and earned a season sweep of West Texas A&M for the first time.
The team still has the potential to accomplish more. The team already has clinched a berth in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Championships, but could win the conference title and the right to host the tournament with wins over Texas Woman's University (9-6-1; LSC 3-4-1) and Texas A&M-Commerce (11-5; LSC 5-3), this weekend. Playing at ENMU Soccer Field has been extremely advantageous for the Zias this season, as displayed by the 5-1 record through the first six home matches of the season.
Entering the weekend, Eastern is just two wins away from equaling the team record for wins (10), set in the 2005 season. It is also just one away from tying the team mark for conference wins in a season (6) from the 2011 season.
