PORTALES, N.M. — After a season which saw the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team win four of its first five Lone Star Conference games, the Zias are ready to tip off the 2014-15 season and make a run at their third conference tournament appearance in four seasons. If Sunday afternoon's performance against NCAA Division I University of New Mexico is a sign of things to come, Eastern will be a vastly improved team, this season.

Josh Prock. Of the seven previous head coaches, three have produced winning seasons in their second year at the helm (Bernie Barras 1978, Wayne Moore 1982, and Dan Buzard 2003).
The Zias will play a number of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Heartland Conference and Sunshine State Conference opponents during the first semester. Eastern will also face Northern New Mexico and have exhibitions against Texas-El Paso and New Mexico State. In the spring semester, the Zias have a 16-game slate against Lone Star Conference opposition, in their chase to return to the conference tournament in Allen, Texas.
The Zias enter their 41st season of play and will be looking to snap a 12-game skid. The Zias last victory came in
a resounding 90-76 decision over Texas A&M-Commerce.
The three top scorers from last year return:
Tori Tucker (Sr., F, Portales, N.M./Floyd HS/Howard College) (11.5 ppg/6.9 rpg),
Jasmine Johnson (Sr., P, DeSoto, Texas/DeSoto HS) (10 ppg/5.6 rpg) and
Jordyn Cooper (Jr., G, Texico, N.M./Texico HS) (9.3 ppg).
Inside the Series The lone meeting with Colorado School of Mines was played on November 17, 2000, in Goodwell, Okla.
The Zias dropped a 53-36 decision and trailed 24-19 at halftime. Katheryne Hickman and Lenni Hartley each had eight points, while Lisa Rollins finished with eight rebounds.
This weekend will mark the first meeting with University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Looking Ahead Next weekend, the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team will head to The Pit in Albuquerque, to face cross-state rival,
Western New Mexico University. The Zias will open the home schedule on Tuesday, November 25, against
Fort Lewis College.
