LAS VEGAS, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico baseball team fell to 3-4 Sunday, losing the final game of a four game series to New Mexico Highlands University (4-3) 10-8.
After falling behind 4-0 by the top of the fourth inning, the Greyhounds battled back and in two innings recorded five runs off five hits to take the lead 5-4. As quickly as Eastern had taken the lead, the Cowboys took it back, scoring two runs in their last three innings at the plate.
But the Greyhounds weren't done yet, and as they had twice in the series already, they battled back in the last inning. A
Keenan Dodd (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian Academy) double to left scored one, followed by a double from
Charles Sandberg Jr. (Jr., Bradenton, Fla. / State College of Fla. Manatee-Sarasota) that scored two more runs. It wasn't to be though, as the following batter would fly out to right field.
Sandberg finished the day with three hits and three RBIs, both of which led the team.
Dylan Nault (Jr., Anaheim, Calif. / Cypress College) added one hit and two RBIs, along with Dodd who went 2-of04 from the plate with one RBI.
The Greyhounds will head back to Portales, N.M., to play host to University of the Southwest Wed., Feb. 18, at 5:00 p.m. (MST). Following the game against USW, the team will head to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Lubbock Christian University in a three game series.
