Kendrick Finishes with 0.00 ERA and Nine K's In Series Finale vs. Kingsville

Monday, March 16, 2015

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS — Clyde Kendrick (Jr., Vicksburg, Miss. / Holmes Community College) threw nine strikeouts in five innings of work in the Eastern New Mexico University baseball team's (5-14, 1-7 LSC) 3-2 loss Monday to Texas A&M University-Kingsville (15-7, 9-2 LSC) in 11 innings of play.

The Greyhounds took an early 2-0 lead against the Javelinas, but Kingsville managed to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth.  The two teams would continue to battle and take the contest into extra innings, finally ending with a walk off score by Kingsville in the bottom of the 11th.

Kendrick got the start for Eastern and performed exceptionally well.  The junior recorded a career-high nine strikeouts for the Greyhounds in only five innings pitched, with only two hits and no runs scored.

The rising star for Eastern is quickly moving up the team's rankings in most every pitching category, sitting at No. 2 on the team for total strikeouts (27), No. 1 in opponents' batting average (.169) and No. 1 in ERA (3.05).

In what turned out to be a low scoring affair, both teams had a hard time reaching base off hits during the game, with Eastern only recording five and the Javelinas six.  There were a combined 12 walks in the game however, with much of the scoring being generated off those runners.

The Greyhounds will head to San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday for a single nonconference game against St. Mary's University-Texas before returning home for a four game series over the weekend against in conference opponent Cameron University.
