SNYDER, TEXAS — Freshman
Samantha Smith (Rimbey, Alberta, Canada/Rimbey HS turned in a first-place performance in the barrel race to lead the Eastern New Mexico University women's rodeo team to a first place finish at the Western Texas College Rodeo. The Zias have won both rodeos they have competed in this spring after earning a first-place finish at West Texas A&M in October.
Eastern accumulated 230 points and was followed by runner-up Tarleton State with 127 points. Weatherford College placed third overall with 110 points.
Smith finished third in the first go with a time of 13.92, but bounced back with a time of 13.55 to win the short round and finish first in the event with a total time of 27.37 on two. The runner up finished with a time of 27.75 on two.
Lindsey Adcock (So., Belen, N.M./Hope HS) won the goat tying with a time of 14.7 on two. She won the short round after a third-place finish in the first round.
Hayden Segelke-Todd (Sr., Snyder, Colo.) finished second in the goat tying with a time of 14.9 on two after finishing as the runner up in the first and short rounds.
Keely Weger (Sr., Mead, Okla./Vernon College) also performed well in the event with a time of 16.2 on two.
In the breakaway roping,
Hunter Haley (Fr., Portales, N.M./Portales HS) and
Zoey Sharp (Sr., Stillwell, Kan./Blue Valley HS) both reached the short round. Haley finished third in the average with a time of 4.9 seconds on two, while Sharp split 9th and 10th with six competitors.
The rodeo teams will return to action on Thursday, April 9, for the Howard College rodeo.
