PORTALES, N.M. —
Eli Lord's second-place performance in the steer wrestling at last weekend's Odessa College Rodeo paced the Eastern New Mexico University men's rodeo team to a third-place finish. The women's team finished fourth on the strength of
Tawny Barry's third-place finish in the goat tying.
The men's team compiled 190 points. Tarleton State won the event with 485 points, while Weatherford College was the runner up with 345 points.
Eli Lord split fifth and sixth in the first round of the steer wrestling, but bounced back with a third-place finish to take second in the average. Hart took third place in the event after a second-place performance in the short round.
The women's team finished with 142 points. Texas Tech won the rodeo with 225 points, while Vernon College and Weatherford College tied for second, with 155 points each.
After she split fourth and fifth in the first and short rounds of the goat tying, Barry placed third in the average.
Lindsey Adcock was close behind, and split fourth and fifth in the average, while Laney Elkin split fifth and sixth in the first go.
Ariana Sanchez placed eighth in the barrel race. She also was eighth in both the first go and short round.
The Eastern New Mexico University rodeo teams will conclude the regular season next weekend, at Tarleton State.
