SNYDER, TEXAS — With a strong performance at the Western Texas College rodeo, the Eastern New Mexico University women's team took second place and is just 18 points out of second in the region. Macey Devenport led the way with a second-place finish in the barrel race, while Tawny Berry was second in the goat tying.
Sid Hart won the steer wrestling for the men's team.
The women's team scored 195 behind first-place Tarleton State (220 points). Texas Tech finished with 170 points.
After winning the first round in the barrel race, Devenport finished second overall.
Tierra Gray was fourth in the first round and the average.
After splitting first and second in the first round of the goat tying, she split second through fifth in a tight short round. One of the competitors tied in the short round was
Lindsey Adcock, who also took fifth in the average.
Shailynn Schaefer placed third in the breakaway roping. She was third in the short round after splitting second through fifth to open the event.
The men's team placed fourth with 275 points. Odessa College won the rodeo with 405 points, while New Mexico Junior College was the runner up. Tarleton State finished third with 290 points.
Hart rebounded from a sixth-place finish in the first round of the steer wrestling by winning the short round and average.
Hank Filippini was the runner-up in the short round and third in the average.
Bryce Howe took fourth in the saddle bronc riding after finishing fourth in the first go.
The Eastern New Mexico University rodeo teams will head to Howard College, this weekend.
