Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Tarleton State Tournament

PORTALES, N.M. – The ENMU Greyhounds volleyball team closed out the Tarleton State Tournament with a split against Arkansas Monticello and Colorado Mesa. The Greyhounds move to 4-4 on the year before starting Lone Star Conference action next week.

In the first match of the morning, ENMU rallied past Arkansas-Monticello after dropping the first set, 19-25, 25-21, 29-27, 25-13, to claim the four-set victory. Senior Lauren Frye led all players with 17 kills, swinging .314 with only six errors on 35 attempts. Fellow senior, Courtney Lawson, posted 15 kills and 14 digs, along with a pair of blocks to lead the Greyhounds to victory.

Essentially playing a double-header, Eastern was unable to ride the wave of momentum following the first match. The Greyhounds dropped a narrow, 3-1, decision to Colorado Mesa (25-18, 26-28, 25-23, 25-22). The Mavericks are currently receiving votes in the AVCA DII Volleyball Coaches Poll. Junior Brooklyn Biel led the charge with a match-high 17 kills. Lawson (14) and Frye (13) also picked up double digit kills in the setback.

The Greyhounds travel to Lubbock for a match against Lubbock Christian at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. For the latest news, follow @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and visit goeasternathletics.com.
