PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team travels to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Virginia State, Clark Atlanta, Morehouse and Tuskegee. The Greyhounds are coming off a four-game sweep of Lane College in Jackson, Tenn., scoring 65 runs in the opening series. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is slated for 3 p.m. while Sunday and Monday's doubleheaders are tabbed for 11 a.m.
 
The Greyhounds are coming off a 10-40 campaign under fourth-year head coach David Gomez. Eastern returns 14 players from last year's squad in Nick DeArmond, Keenan Dodd, Jared Gay, Jarron Hill, Michael Holliday, Scott Klein, Alec Lemmon, Marcus Martinez, Mike McNicholl, Chris Padilla, Enrique Perez, Zach Shank, Andrew Stubbs and Paul Tapia.
 
Alex DeLaCruz opened the season on a tear at the plate, going 13-for-21 (.619) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, a triple, three long balls and 11 RBI. Andrew Stubbs, Mike McNicholl and Jared Gay are all hitting .400 or better on the year, pacing an offense that is hitting .374 as a team.
 
Keenan Dodd earned Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week this past weekend after earning the win in the series finale. The right-hander fanned 10 of 12 batters faced and recorded four perfect innings in the 7-0 win over the Dragons.
 
Scouting Virginia State
The Trojans are coming off an 8-28 season.  Virginia State returns one of their top hitters, David Markins with a batting average of .325, 4 home runs, and 23 RBI. The Trojans are also returning one their top pitchers, Jordan Claytor, with a W-L of 5-4, ERA of 5.25 and 1 save.
 
Scouting Clark Atlanta
The Panthers are coming off a 12-31 season and starting this season with 1-1.  Clark Atlanta brings back one of their top hitters, Jason Howell with a batting average of .319, 19 RBI's, and 2 home runs.  They also return one of their top pitchers, Jordan Johnson with an ERA of 3.69, a W-L of 4-3, and four saves
 
Scouting Morehouse
The Tigers are coming off a 17-28 season.  The tigers are returning one of their top hitters, Jared Maner with a batting average of .353, 32 RBI and three home runs.  They are also returning on of their top pitchers, Daron Bowling with a W-L of 4-6 and an ERA of 6.42.
 
Scouting Tuskegee
The Tigers are coming off a 13-29 season, starting the season with 3-1.  The Tigers are returning one of their top hitters, Jalen Luter with a batting average of .286, six home runs, and 25 RBI.  The Tigers also return one of their top pitchers, Trey Nelson with an ERA of 5.00 and a W-L of 4-4.
