Hounds Ready For Challenging Road Games At West Texas A&M, Midwestern State

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico women's soccer program is set to open up a four-match road swing this week as it will travel to Canyon, Texas on Wednesday to take on No. 21 West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. and then to Wichita Falls, Texas for a Sunday match at 11 a.m. against Midwestern State.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hounds (3-2-2, 1-0-1 Lone Star Conference) are coming off a solid week, picking up a win and a tie at home to open LSC play. ENMU defeated Texas A&M-Commerce 2-0 in the Friday game and followed it up with a scoreless draw against Texas Woman's University.

Against the Lions, the Greyhounds took advantage of a TAMUC own goal midway through the first half, holding the Lions to just nine shots in the match with only three being put on-goal. Kaitlyn Caro recorded her second goal of the season when her shot found the back of the net in the 81st minute.

In the Texas Woman's match, both teams played a tight defensive match as the 110-minute, double overtime event only saw a combined 22 shots taken with 14 placed on-goal. Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Jackson made one of her biggest saves of the season at the 23:31 mark of the first half after ENMU was called for holding in the box and TWU was rewarded with a penalty kick. Taylor made a fantastic diving save toward the right side of the goal, forcing the ball out of bounds to keep the Pioneers off the board.

SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M (7-1, 2-0 LSC) has been on fire since dropping its season-opener to Colorado State - Pueblo, winning seven consecutive matches. The Lady Buffs have been especially tough on the defensive end, giving up just one goal in their last five matches.

WTAMU picked up a pair of home victories last week, defeating Texas Woman's 2-0 on Friday and following it up with a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday.

For the Hounds to be successful, they'll have to try to find a way to contain Lady Buffs junior forward Khaline Jacob, who leads the Lone Star Conference with seven goals scored this season.

HISTORY WITH THE LADY BUFFS
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time record 14-4-3 against the Hounds, however, ENMU has provided a challenge to West Texas A&M in recent history. Last season, the Hounds and Lady Buffs drew ties in both matches against each other. ENMU played WTAMU to a scoreless tie in Greyhound Stadium on Oct. 4, 2017. When the two teams faced off at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas on Oct. 25, 2017, the Hounds overcame a late deficit, scoring the equalizer in the 88th minute to force overtime and eventually come away with a 1-1 draw.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State (2-4-1) is coming off a split last week in its LSC opening week. The Mustangs dropped a 2-1 decision at Angelo State on Friday before bouncing back with a 3-0 win at Texas-Permian Basin on Sunday. The victory over the Falcons snapped a four match losing streak.

Freshman forward Senna Garcia leads the MSU offensive attack, leading the team with three goals scored while freshman defender Emma Baley leads the team with three assists.

The Hounds will look to attack goalkeeper Samantha Upton, who has given up 12 goals in seven contests this season and has a .684 save percentage.

HISTORY WITH THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State leads the all-time series between the two programs with a 15-4-3 record, but the Greyhounds have had recent success against the Mustangs. Last season, the Hounds picked up a pair of victories and a draw against MSU. ENMU tied the Mustangs at home on Oct. 8, 2017 and would follow it up with a 2-1 victory in the regular season finale in Wichita Falls, Texas on Oct. 27, 2017. The two teams faced each other one more time in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament on Nov. 1, 2017, to which the Greyhounds put together a dominant 4-0 win to earn their first ever LSC Tournament match.

BLANKING THE COMPETITION
After picking up consecutive shutouts last week, the Greyhounds have pitched three straight shutouts dating back to their Sept. 15 match against Southern Nazarene. The last time the Hounds shutout three consecutive opponents was in 2009, when ENMU pitched four straight shutouts.

SAVING EVERYTHING
Jackson has been very effective in the net the last three matches, recording 13 saves in that stretch. She tied her career-high with eight saves against Texas Woman's, lowering her goals against average to 0.52 and her save percentage to 0.900, making her the leader in the Lone Star Conference in both categories.
