Segler Adds Cobas to Add Fifth Greyhound to 2019-20 Signing Class

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team recently announced the signing of Yosnier Cobas, a 6'7 forward from Colombia Junior College.

Cobas recently finished up a two-year playing career at Colombia Junior College in Sonora, Calif. and led Colombia to a record of 21-8 his sophomore season. He was named to the All-CVC First Team and All-CVC Defensive Team for his efforts and joins a dynamic core of 2019-20 signings for Eastern New Mexico men's basketball in Ibn Zaid, Brandon Meadows, Austin Kingman and Marvin Mapanga, all five of which will come to Portales, N.M. after successful junior college careers.

"Yos has been a pleasure to get to know over the course of this year," head coach Tres Segler said, "He is a very mature and quality young man, and it is clear that his family has raised him to be a high character person. Yos prides himself on his toughness above all else, and that quality fits the DNA of our ENMU basketball program perfectly. Yos is an elite shot blocker that will look to impose his will around the rim and in the paint against other LSC offensive talents. He is another forward that has a dynamic balance between physical strength and explosive leaping ability. Not many athletes can do both well and Yos will be a leading rebounder in the LSC."

Cobas led the Central Valley Conference last season with an average of 9.6 rebounds per game and finished second in the league with a season field-goal percentage of 63.8 percent. The 6'7 forward averaged 2.1 blocks per game and nearly averaged a double-double with 12.8 points per contest.

"Offensively, Yos can score the ball equally well with both hands," coach Segler said, "He is a face-up and isolation nightmare for opponents because he can handle the ball extremely well. In our ball-screen motion offense he will be able to score on all three levels as a pick-and-roller, pick-and-space isolation scorer, and even a pick-and-pop shooter. These skills will provide our team with a great set of weapons to attack opposing defenses."

He went for over 20 points in three different games last season and failed to reach double-digit scoring numbers in just eight games all year. Cobas recorded 10 or more rebounds on 13 different occasions throughout the season and blocked three or more shots in 11 games.

"Yos is a leader by example, and his work ethic will help our program become tougher each day," coach Segler said, "I look forward to Yos competing everyday in our practices, and I know that our returning Greyhounds are excited about how much he will add to our Greyhound family."
