Jose Murillo named first team all-region by D2CCA

Eastern New Mexico senior one of two from LSC to earn first team all-region

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico senior forward Jose Murillo was named a first team all-region honoree by the D2CCA (Division II Conference Commissioner's Association) on Thursday morning.

"I am very very happy for Jose," said head coach Daven Võ when told about the recognition. "He is deserving of this award."

Murillo is one of two players in the Lone Star Conference to receive first team honors. There were four LSC student-athletes who were part of the second team.

The list includes:

FIRST TEAM
Ty Allred Colorado Mesa G 6-9 R-Sr. RMAC
Cam Lowe* Black Hills State G 6-6 R-So. RMAC
Aidan McDowell Western Colorado G 6-4 So. RMAC
Amondo Miller Jr. Lubbock Christian G/F 6-7 Sr. LSC
Jose Murillo Eastern New Mexico F 6-9 Sr. LSC

Fontaine Williams West Texas A&M G 6-2 Jr. LSC

Murillo has helped the Greyhounds tie the school record for most wins in a single season and has aided the program to break the total number of conference victories in a year. He guided the team to just their third appearance in the Lone Star Conference tournament title game.

"I am proud of how the team has developed and continues to battle," said Murillo when talking about the all-region achievement. "Really happy for my teammates and coaches and how we grow as people and players. It's been a great season so far and there is a lot of basketball left."

Murillo currently ranks fifth in the nation shooting 65.4% from the floor. Eastern New Mexico as a team sits first nationally in field goal percentage and the Chihuahua, Mexico native is a major reason why.

He is first in the conference and 21st among DII shot blockers with 58 total blocks. Coming into the 2025-26 campaign, Murillo had already become the school's career leader in total blocks. The senior is also 19th in the country with 12 double doubles. He sits third in the LSC with 248 total rebounds, including a top mark in the conference with 3.47 offensive rebounds per game.

Murillo and the Greyhounds are in the national tournament for just the fourth time in program history. It will be the forward's second time playing in the NCAA DII tourney. Eastern New Mexico goes into their first round matchup against St. Mary's on Saturday, March 14. DBU is the tournament host for the south central region.
