LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico cross country saw multiple student-athletes set personal records at the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship at the Chaparral Cross Country course on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. As a team, the women's program placed 13
th out of 25 teams, while the men's program did not take part in team scoring.
Five women's runners placed in the top-100, with
Aminata Kenyawani setting the pace for the Greyhounds with a time of 21:59.3 on the 6K course, setting a personal best. Kenyawani's time was enough to place 43
rd out of a field of 173 runners. Kenyawani is only the second ever ENMU runner to break the 22-minute mark on a 6K course, with only Mercy Rotich also clocking times under 22 minutes, based on available records. Kenyawani's time also stands as the 5
th fastest time in ENMU history in a 6K race, based on available records.
Dorcas Kosgei also set a personal record, placing 57
th with a time of 22:26.7.
Lethabo Seema paced a time of 23:07.9, placing 79
th and setting a PR.
Malethabo Seema also posted a personal best, with a time 23:29.3 to finish 95
th.
Marta Pascoa also clocked a PR with a time of 23:35.5 to place 100
th.
Kelvin Kipkemboi was the fastest runner for the men's program, with a time of 31:46.22 on the 10K course. Kipkemboi found a 47
th place finish out of 180 competitors. The time of 31:46.22 is the 10
th fastest time for a 10K course by an ENMU runner.
Devis Cheruiyot and
Japhet Toroitich also competed, posting times of 34:01.7 (123
rd) and 34:39.05 (136
th), respectively. Each runner set a personal best for a 10K race, as this was their first time tackling a 10K course.
The NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships are next on Nov. 20, in Saint Leo, Fla. The DII Cross Country selections for the championship will be announced on Monday, Nov. 8.
