PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico baseball team travels to St. Mary's University for a three-game series this weekend. The Greyhounds and Rattlers will meet for a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
St. Mary's enters the weekend with an overall record of  11-13 (as of 3/29/21) and a conference record of 9-12. The Rattlers had a non-conference mid-week game against Our Lady of the Lake University on Tuesday night. Last weekend, St. Mary's fell three times to No. 10 West Texas A&M by scores of 7-6, 4-3, and 11-0.Â
Jake Mares leads the team in batting average (.352), hits (32), runs (22), and triples (2). Mitchell Caskey is also an offensive power for the Rattlers with a .312 batting average, 29 hits, five doubles, and a team-leading 21 RBI.Â
On the mound, Dylan Bells, Zach De La Garza, and Connor Schmidt all have three wins for the Rattlers. De La Garza paces the squad in strikeouts with 48, while Johnny Hernandez has a team-low ERA of 2.45.Â

LAST TIME OUTÂ
Eastern New Mexico enters the weekend with a 5-16 overall record and 4-16 Lone Star Conference record. Last weekend, the Greyhounds dropped three games to Oklahoma Christian by scores of 27-7, 6-4, and 12-2.Â
Rio Granger finished the weekend 6-for-8 at the plate overall, with a three-run home run in the first game of the series.
Nicholas Tamez was successful in the second game of the series as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles.Â
On the mound,
James Romero,
Cooper Hamilton, and
Dalton Thatcher were all credited with losses.
Josh Lewis pitched seven innings in the second game of the series and had seven strikeouts.Â

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Cole Luedeking leads all players in batting average (.350) and hits (21).
Daniel Hunt has also been producing well offensively with 17 hits and 13 runs.
Braeton Matthews is a perfect 6-6 on stolen bases so far this season.Â
Josh Lewis and
Dalton Thatcher have seen the most time on the mound for the Hounds with 28 and 22.0 innings, respectively. Lewis also leads all Eastern pitchers in strikeouts with 25.
Cooper Hamilton has been fairly consistent on the hill with a 3.71 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 17 innings.Â
