CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track & field programs competed at the West Texas A&M Jo Meaker Classic & Multi this weekend.
Mercy Rotich led the way for the Greyhounds with a first-place finish in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 19:15.12.
Jessica Campbell had a second-place finish in the heptathlon with an overall score of 4657. She was first in the javelin (124-2.0, 37.85m) and tied for first in the high jump (5-3.25, 1.61m) portions. Her score was a provisional qualifying performance for the NCAA outdoor track and field championships to be held at Grand Valley State later this spring and also broke her own previous program record from the 2019 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championship.
In the women's 800-meter run,
Malethabo Seema earned eighth place with a time of 2:17.68.
The women's 4x400 relay team of
Neri Getraide,
Caroline Bachman,
Lethabo Seema, and M. Seema finished in 4:05.65 which was good for fourth place.
Tamia Smith was eight in the shot put (42-2.0, 12.85m) and 13
th in the discus (110-5.0, 33.66m). The shot-put distance was a new program record.
In the men's 5000-meter run,
Kelvin Kipkemboi finished fourth with a time of 15:31.53.
Toby Kirk clocked a time of 11:09.01 in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase which was good for fifth place.
The Greyhounds are back in action on April 10 at the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open.
