Men's track and field locks in another provisional in Lubbock

Eastern New Mexico continues strong start to outdoor campaign at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico men's track and field earned an NCAA DII provisional mark for a second consecutive week. The nationally recognized throw came at the Masked Rider Open hosted by Texas Tech on Thursday.

"A lot of good things are happening," said head coach Joshua Harden when reflecting on the competition. "It's not exactly where we want to be, but that is because we know we have a lot more left to show."

Andre Smikle and Kyle Covington both had personal record throws in the discus. Smikle put up a NCAA DII provisional throw of 51.20m (168-0) on his second attempt of the day and now ranks second all-time in school history. This season, he moves into the top 10 nationally with the mark. Covington threw 42.49m (139-5) and just missed out on qualifying for finals at the meet.

The best thrower for Eastern in the shot put was Noe Ybaben Burciaga who tossed 14.07m (46-2) to take third. Seven different Hounds competed in the hammer. Three of those student-athletes earned personal record throws. They included Andre Smikle (47.56m (156-0)), Emiliano Morrison (47.04m (154-4)), and Ricardo Neira (42.21m (138-6)). Smikle and Morrison finished third and fourth respectively in the event. The top thrower for ENMU was Devin Mata who put up a 48.92m (160-6) mark for a runnerup finish.

Manny Chavez was the top thrower among the Greyhounds in the javelin. The Portales, N.M. native took fourth in the meet with a 58.86m (193-1) mark.

Another strong area for ENMU came in the jumps. Angelo Bowser competed in the long jump for the first time since late-January. He posted a personal record of 7.24m (23-9), which is the best outdoor long jump since the 1970s for ENMU. He took fifth overall in the event. Devon Falco improved his triple jump mark by more than a foot with a 14.56m (47-9.25) leap. He finished fourth in the competition.

Both Nicolo Salaris (10.48s) and Cooper Burgess (10.91s) had personal best days in the 100m. Salaris is ranked seventh among runners in the Lone Star Conference with his time. JuanDiego Duran (22.35s) had a new personal record in the 200m. Duran was the only finisher in the 400m as well with a 49.99s time. He placed in the top 25 in both events.

Eloy Serrano Borrego (1:52.96) was ENMU's top finisher in the 800m. He is currently ranked first among all 800m runners in the Lone Star Conference. Jackson Gable was Eastern's top finisher in the 1500m with a 4:27.74 time.

Only one Greyhound hurdler competed in the meet. Byron Pruitt had a personal record by more than a quarter-second in the 110m hurdles. He took ninth in the field with a 14.81s time.

The 4x100 relay had a strong opening run for the 2026 season. The crew of John Magee, Nicolo Salaris, Jamo Williams, and Abisai Torres breezed through the race for a 40.73s time. The group ranks fifth in the conference.
