Burgess, Smikle, and Ulmer lead ten Greyhounds in conference honors

Cooper Burgess, Andre Smikle, and Kennedy Ulmer earn first-team all-conference

RICHARDSON, Texas - Eastern New Mexico track and field had a banner showing at the Lone Star Conference Championships, as the Greyhounds placed ten student-athletes on the All-Conference teams, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Leading the way for ENMU were Andre Smikle, Cooper Burgess, and Kennedy Ulmer, who each earned First Team All-Conference recognition for their performances at the conference meet in Canyon.

Smikle dominated the throwing events, capturing First-Team honors after scoring 13 points for the Hounds. The junior thrower won the discus throw and added a sixth-place finish in the shot put. Smikle's performance in the discus was particularly impressive, as he qualified for the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships with the 12th farthest throw in the nation this season.

Burgess earned First-Team recognition in the jumps, scoring ten points and winning the long jump.

Ulmer was a force across multiple throwing events, earning First-Team All-Conference honors after scoring 21 points. She placed second in both the javelin and discus throws, earning eight points in each event, and added five points with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw. Like Smikle, Ulmer punched her ticket to nationals at the conference meet with the ninth farthest throw in the nation in the discus this season.

The Greyhounds men squad also placed two student-athletes on the Second-Team All-Conference team. Devon Falco scored nine points in the jumping events, placing second in the triple jump for eight points and eighth in the long jump for one point. Thomas Aerdts added eight points with a second-place finish in the high jump.

Rounding out ENMU's All-Conference selections were five student-athletes who earned Third-Team recognition. Byron Pruitt scored 6.5 points across multiple events, placing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (four points), seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (two points), and seventh in the 4x400-meter relay (0.5 points). Strahinja Radakovic finished third in the 110-meter hurdles and scored six points. Manny Chavez also scored six points with a third-place finish in the javelin.

On the women's side, Vivica Addison and Celina Thomas each earned Third-Team All-Conference recognition for their performances at the conference meet. Addison placed fourth in the javelin (5 points) and eighth in the hammer throw (1 point) while Thomas finished third in the triple jump (6 points).

The Eastern will now turn its attention to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where Smikle and Ulmer will represent the Hounds. Smikle will compete in the discus throw on Friday, May 22, at 12:30 p.m. MT / 1:30 p.m. CT, while Ulmer will follow in the same event at 3:30 p.m. MT / 4:30 p.m. CT.
