CLOVIS, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico hosted its first cross country meet since 2013 Saturday morning at Hillcrest Park.
The men's team was aided by a sixth-place finish from
Ethan Woodrome who finished the 8k course in 30:32.92. The Hounds took second in the meet behind New Mexico Highlands.
Luis Holguin completed the meet in 31:14.27 and
Ricky Diaz posted his second-best race of the season with a 32:29.40 time.
First-time runners, John Magee (47:40.33) and Alexander Johnson (49:04.76) also finished for the Greyhounds.
The women's race was a tight battle on a quick course with very little elevation change and two loops around the park.
NMHU's Faith Lovato took the top mark in the meet with a 22:57.83, while the Greyhounds top finisher,
Marta Pascoa, crossed the line in 23:36.94.
The Cowgirls and Eastern traded the first six places in the meet with New Mexico Highlands earning the first, third, and fifth places and ENMU clinching the second, fourth (
Kaylyn De La Rosa – 26:35.82), and sixth places (
Lauren Griego – 27:20.61).
Also competing for Eastern New Mexico was
Valeria Martinez (7
th – 27:25.61) and
Elise Toya (9
th – 28:53.96).
ENMU runs one more time before the LSC championship in Wichita Falls Texas. The next meet will be at Angelo State (San Angelo, Texas) for the ASU Blue and Gold Classic on October 26
th. The first race will begin at 4:10 p.m.
