Men's basketball begins season with exhibition at DI GCU

PORTALES, N.M. – It's finally here! Basketball season!

Eastern New Mexico men's basketball is taking flight to Phoenix for an exhibition game against the preseason favorite in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Before the Hounds take on Grand Canyon, please take a look at the Starting Five:

1.) New Look ENMU – Greyhounds fans will see a lot of new faces when they tune-in Friday night for Eastern's match. Brent Owen and his staff brought in twelve new players to the squad, including the Albuquerque Metro Player of the Year in Jose Murillo. The Chihuahua, Mexico native took Highland HS to a state championship as a senior and averaged 36 points and 18 rebounds per game in the tournament.

2.) Brotherly Love Niko Bossinakis is back for ENMU this winter and this time he will be playing on the court with his brother, Alex Bossinakis. Alex is a two-time all-state honoree and helped Fort Worth Christian High School to the state title game. He closed out his prep career with 1,740 points.

3.) Who Are They – During LSC Media Day, Brent Owen was joined by senior guard Eze Dike and the "Voice of the Greyhounds" Doc Elder to talk about the 2022-23 season. During the interview, Dike talked about his versatility, leadership, and lessons learned. To see the full interview, check out the tweet below:

4.) Double Up – Sophomore forward Errol White comes to Portales via Angelina College where he was a double-double machine. He averaged 10.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game at the school and had 11 double-doubles in a season that saw the team make the Region XIV Tournament.

5.) The Big Stage – Eastern New Mexico will be facing a tough challenge as they will be playing at GCU Arena in Phoenix for an exhibition game against a Division I foe. Grand Canyon is the favorite to win the WAC, which features teams like New Mexico State, Tarleton State, and Stephen F. Austin. The Antelopes are led by fourth-year junior guard, Jovan Blacksher Jr. who has started in all 85 games for GCU during his career. He is also the WAC preseason player of the year.
