PORTALES, N.M. – Greyhound Arena is ready for ENMU men's basketball to play its first home game of the 2022-23 season.
Before Eastern New Mexico takes on Navajo Tech for a pair of matchups this weekend, please take a look at the Starting Five:
1.) New Game Changers – The Hounds 15-man roster features 12 new players. Out of the 166 points scored by ENMU over the weekend, just 11 points came from the three returners for
Brent Owen's squad. Instead, the team was led by a handful of players including
Grehlon Easter,
Greg Johnson,
Błażej Czerniewicz,
Errol White, and
Jose Murillo scoring in double figures at least once in the team's trip to Las Vegas, N.M. The Greyhounds also outrebounded its opponents in both games.
2.) Defensive Threat – Freshman
Jose Murillo ranks in the top-10 among DII players with six blocks over the first games of the season. The Mexico native and former Highland High School star played 45 minutes off the bench, scored 10.5 points per game, and grabbed 13 total rebounds. In the team's win against the Cowboys, he dished out four assists to provide an anchor during Eastern's dominant performance over NMHU.
3.) Un punto a la vez – Eastern New Mexico ranks second in the Lone Star Conference with 83.0 points per game. Last season, the Greyhounds put up 69.4 per contest and hit the 80-point mark six times. Easter leads the team in scoring with 15.0, while White averages 14.5, Czerniewicz goes for 12.0, and Murillo marks 10.5 per appearance.
Eze Dike and
Malique Oates both have 8.0 points per game early on this season.
4.) Youth Day + Clovis Game – One of the best days every year is Youth Day at Greyhound Arena. Thursday's tip is set for 11 a.m. and will welcome thousands of local children for the game. This year, fans can expect different contests and challenges along with the typical tunes giving the stadium a good jam. On Saturday, ENMU will be playing Navajo Tech for a free game at Clovis High School. The game will begin at 3 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to join the Greyhounds on Saturday at The Rock. Both games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.
5.) Welcome the Skyhawks – Navajo Tech is playing its first season of collegiate basketball and is led by head coach Robb Floco. The team has lost games to Adams State and Northern New Mexico and won a pair of matchups against Justice College (Gilbert, Ariz.). One player to watch out for is Jalen Gant who scored 26 points in a victory over Justice, 87-81. The school also offers programs in cross country, archery, rodeo, women's basketball, and volleyball.
