Baseball Tangles With Adams State In A Non-Conference Series

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico baseball look to bounce back after a difficult opening home series. The Hounds will welcome Adams State University for a pair of non-conference contests. Game one is set for Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, with a 2 p.m. first pitch. The teams will conclude the mini-series on Sunday, Feb. 20, with a scheduled start time of 1 p.m.   

LAST TIME OUT 

• The Greyhounds enter the weekend with a after series sweep from #15 West Texas A&M University. The Hounds narrowly loss the final two games of the series, 7-6 and 10-8 against the Buffs.
• Cooper Hamilton went 3-3 three in game one with two RBI's, while Spencer Roach finished with two hits and two RBI's. Game three of the series was highlighted by 4.1 scoreless innings thrown by Tommy Perez, halting the Buffs offense. At the plate Dax Edmonds sprayed two hits with one RBI.
• In the series finale against the Buffs, Camden Matthews had two hits and two RBI's.

SCOUTING THE GRIZZLES 

•The Grizzles completed their first weekend of play recently, finishing with a 1-3 record against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
•Adams State won their season opener against the Bulldogs 3-1 on Feb. 11, but fell in the remaining three games: 14-4 (8 Inn.), 9-4, and 11-2.
•At the dish, Ryan Downs holds a .444 batting average with four hits, including a double and a triple. Orlando Romero also holds the team lead in hits with four, sporting a BA of .308, and a team best three RBI's.
•Striding the rubber, Alfredo Villa recorded the win for ASU with six innings pitched and just one run allowed.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS 

• Overall, Eastern holds a standing of 1-7 on the season, with the same Lone Star Conference record.  
• Roach holds the team's best batting average at .364, collecting eight hits and three RBI's. Hamilton paces the squad with five RBI's on seven hits, with a batting average of .350. Sammy Williamson is tied for the team lead in hits with eight, and has two doubles this season.
• On the bump, Damian Acosta has the Hounds lone win this season and leads the Greyhounds with 12 strikeouts.
