LUBBOCK, Texas – After being named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Hitter of the Week,
Spencer Roach of the Eastern New Mexico baseball has been named National Colligate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Central Hitter of the Week. The South Central Region is made up of the LSC and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Roach is now eligible for the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week honor, which will be voted on later this week.
Roach swung a hot bat over the weekend, as ENMU went 3-1 against UT Tyler. Roach finished the weekend with a .429 batting average, with an on-base percentage of .500, and tallied six hits over the series. Roach powered the Hounds in game one of the series, finishing 3-4 at the plate, with a two-run home run, along with three runs scored, and three RBI. Roach currently leads the Hounds in batting average (.348), slugging percentage (.591), hits (23), runs scored (19), home runs (3), and total bases (39) for the Greyhounds.
Roach is first ENMU student-athlete to receive NCBWA South Central Weekly Honors since 2017, when Austin Paisar was named NCBWA South Central Pitcher of the Week (4/25). Â
Roach and the Greyhounds play a four-game series this weekend against University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Friday, Mar. 18, is scheduled for a single nine inning game beginning at 6 pm, Saturday, Mar. 19, two seven inning games will be played starting at 2 pm, and the series finale will be a nine inning game on Sunday, Mar. 20, with first pitch at 1 pm.
