Pitch Preview: Fort Lewis and MSU-Denver

PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico Women's Soccer program are set for its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 11, against Metropolitan State University-Denver. Before that first game at Greyhound Stadium, ENMU head to Fort Lewis for a match on Thursday, Sept. 8.

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern improved their record to 2-1 on the season in its last game with a 2-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands. The Hounds jumped ahead after Kelsey Medina's first-time effort found the bottom left corner in the 34th minute. Medina was played in with a long ball over the top from Hannah Grady to put them through on goal. Eastern wrapped up the contest with an Abby Ditzler strike in the 83rd minute. Ditzler pounced on the loose ball after it pinballed around the top of the box, with Ditzler keeping composure and sliding it under the keeper. Samantha Jeffries stopped all seven shots they faced in the Hounds net.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

So far this season, ENMU have scored three goals with just one conceded. As a team, Eastern are averaging 5.7 shots per game with 70.6% of those shots landing on goal. The Greyhounds are conceding 12.3 shots per contest with a 54.1% on goal accuracy. ENMU have posted 19 saves this season, a .950 save percentage.

Medina leads the group in points this season, with one goal and one assist to their name. Tori Galindo and Ditzler have the other Greyhound goals this season. Grady paces the team with over one per game, while also leading the team with three shots on goal this season. Jeffries has played every minute in-between the posts for ENMU, making just over six saves per game and conceding 0.33 goals per game.

SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS

Fort Lewis is still in-search for its first win of the season, holding a 0-3-1 record. Recently, FLC fell 3-0 against Lone Star Conference foe St. Mary's. Prior to that, the Skyhawks had a difficult 3-0 loss against West Texas A&M, along with a 0-0 draw against Lubbock Christian.

Although Fort Lewis hasn't found the back of the net yet, Madyson Barela causes danger in the attack with a team high seven shots this season. Aubury Swindle leads the team in shots on goal with four, with 80% of their attempts finding the target. McKenna Ford leads the line have started every game and recording the most minutes of any outfield player at 325 minutes. FLC have split time in net with a handful of different keepers. Katie Dunbabin leads the group with 180 minutes played and starting all four contests. Dunbabin has recorded 25 saves this season with a 0.862 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS

Before serving as the home opener opponent for the Greyhounds, MSU-Denver will battle Central Washington University at home on Friday, Sept. 9. The Roadrunners this season have a 2-1-1, most recently picking up a 1-0 win over Bridgeport (Conn.).

So far this season, MSU-Denver has struck the back of the net three times along with three assists. MSU-Denver is posting 10.5 shots per game, with 20 shots on goal this season, a percentage of 47.6 %. Defensively, MSU-Denver have made 29 saves overall and committed 29 fouls.

The MSU-Denver goals have come from different sources: Natalie Boragine, Elisa Dean, and Jaimy Sawaged all scoring once, with Sawaged leading the way in shots so far. Katy Coats, Luna Garcia, and Kate Giordano all have provided an assist in the opening four games. Kylie Bach and Kayla Caballero each have played two games this season, with the former holding a 2-0 record and two shutouts.
