VERNON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico women's rodeo took sixth at the Vernon College rodeo this weekend as three student-athletes advanced to the short-go.
"It's just tough," said head coach
Albert Flinn when talking about the barrel racing competition. "It was the first time Shaeden (Marr) made the short round in the barrel racing."
With 180 barrel racers, "tough" is an accurate phrase for those trying to make it to the Saturday night performance.
Shaeden Marr earned a spot in the Saturday night marquee event by a hundreth of a second as she clocked a time of 17.53s. Among the top ten competitors, she earned a sixth-place finish on Saturday with a 17.6s run to finish seventh overall and earn ten team points.
Both
Shacie Marr and
Greeley Eastep shined in the goat tying for Eastern New Mexico.
Shacie Marr split second in the long round after a 6.5s run. Eastep earned the sixth quickest time at 6.9s and earn ten team points.
"The goat tying was terribly fast," said Flinn on the event. "I thought overall those girls are doing a good job. We had four girls in reach."
Shacie Marr held a 7.5s run to earn an additional ten points on top of her 40 from the long round. Her 50 total points combined with her sister's (Shaeden) and Eastep's gave the team a sixth-place nod.
Another close mark for
Shacie Marr came in the breakaway roping where she came two-tenths a second away from advancing to the short round.
Tyson Mackenzie on the men's team took eighteenth in steer wrestling and was just over two seconds away from earning a slot in the top-ten.
Blase Steffen took twenty-third in tiedown roping to come 1.5s shy from Saturday night competition.
ENMU will not compete until the Frank Phillips College rodeo October 12-14. Stay updated with all things Greyhound rodeo on Facebook.
