PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico cross country finished the 2023 season with the Lone Star Conference Championships in Portales.
The women took thirteenth out of fourteen complete teams.
Maritza Alvarez led the way with a 25:03.1 time to take 53rd. Kaylyn De la Rosa was just seconds behind with a 25:22.7 result for 63rd.
Other finishers include
Lauren Griego (27:06.7), Meghan Rodriguez (28:06.7), Mariana Marquez (28:29.2), and Mahault Lebrun (30:56.4).
The men came in thirteenth as well. Freshman
Matthew Guerra ran the 8k course in 27:31.6 to take 51st in his first LSC championship. His teammate
Ricky Diaz finished second among Hound runners with a 32:02.7 time. Also finishing for ENMU included
Emmanuel Hernandez (32:11.8),
Ethan Woodrome (32:29.6), and
Luis Holguin (39:35.1).
"I am glad we were able to host this event," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the race. "I thank all who helped. I am looking forward to a stronger season in 2024."
The Greyhounds will now transition into the track and field season where all distance runners will compete in various events. Some of the most popular among the group include the steeplechase and 800m.
